Your latest single “Love U Again” is getting some great feedback! What was the process of making this song like?
The path into making the song is actually really crazy, I have worked with Rehab in the past and when he sent over this song, I knew instantly that I wanted it. Something about it is just so special.

It’s not the first time you collaborate With R3HAB. How important is it for you to work with producers who understand where you want to be musically?
It changes everything, because you want them to be able to bring the vision to life, and if you can find someone who gets that then it’s the perfect match.

The music video has a very cinematic feel to it. Tell me more about the inspiration behind it?
I wanted the music video to feel like watching movies, I worked with Alex Nazari who directed it. We shot the whole thing on film. Everything just felt really timeless, nostalgic, and cinematic and those are all things that I wanted it to feel like. I feel like we really captured all that perfectly.

There’s more new music coming in October and November. What can you tell us about it?
It all very much falls in line with  the music I’ve been putting out, and with this chapter of my life. I have nearly spent the last year and a half - two years working on music and making it a mission of mine. It’s like a piece of art that I put together. Some of that will be released this year, and I’m very excited about it.

What kind of stories and ideas would you love to explore next in your songs?

I get inspired from everything in life, whether it’s something that I experienced or something that I want to experience.  I get a lot of inspiration from traveling even though this year I wasn’t able to travel at all, so it’s been about finding more inspiration elsewhere -- but everything just sort of falls in line with my life.

What does it feel like to make and release new music in the middle of a worldwide pandemic?

It’s definitely strange, especially not being able to perform, having that human connection is very important for me as a whole. Not being able to do that during the pandemic has been really challenging, but just trying to shift my perspective and be grateful for the people that are streaming and listening to it now and one day hopefully we will be able to do it together.

Music is definitely helping many people get through these difficult times. What does it mean to you to be part of making your fans feel better during these days?
I think it’s about building a community and making sure that people feel that they’re not alone, we’re all in this together. Music is about bringing people together. I think it’s very important to be a part of that experience for people.

Did spending a lot of time at home in the past few months make you see and do things differently? How did it affect you?
It definitely has affected me. My job requires me to be around people all day long and the pandemic is making people stay away from each other.  We all have had to adapt to the current situation in order overcome that challenge.

What is the first thing you wanna do when this pandemic is over?
Go big and have a great Gatsby party. [laughs]

Do you miss performing on stage and this direct contact with the audience?
Yeah! That’s probably the best part about making music, is being able to do it with your fans and play on stage so I’m really excited to go back to that one day.

Do you think that life will go back to how it was last year? Or do you think that some things have changed forever?
Oh, I think that some things have changed forever. I think now the whole world is more cautious.  We have to take care of each other and be aware of other people.

Was it difficult for you to take a break from acting after “Cloak & Dagger”?
I think I definitely needed some sort of pause / a reset. I needed to take a breather but I don’t want to take a break ever again [laughs]. I love what I do so much, and I’ve been saying, ‘if quarantine taught me anything it’s that I miss what I do so much’.

We will see you next in “Cruel Summer” on Freeform. What can you tell us about it?
I’m very excited to work on this show, lots of very incredible, talented people are a part of this project! it’s based in the 90s which is my favorite era, it’s a psychological thriller, and I’m so excited for everybody to watch it.

What do you think will be the most interesting part of playing Kate on the series?

I think that she isn’t what you think, which I find really interesting.

The show is produced by Jessica Biel. Are you excited to work with her?
Very excited yes, I’ve been a fan of hers for a very long time, so I am looking forward to start working with her.

Between singing and acting, you’ve built an amazing career. What do you think is the key to balance between them?
Just really finding time to try to fit in as much as possible, prioritizing and paying attention to each of them.

Is there any hidden talent that we didn’t discover yet about you? Would you like to experiment new areas in your career in the near future?
Yes, I’m really interested in producing, I think that it can be really fun. I’ve also been doing a lot of songwriting in the last year which has helped me grow as an artist.

It almost feels surreal that the first time you were in the magazine was 7 years ago, and now we’re celebrating the magazine’s 9th anniversary with you!
Yeah! Huge congrats to Glamoholic, I’m very excited to be a part of it this year. I appreciate all the love and support over the years from the fans and from Glamoholic, so thank you guys!
