SHANNON K
Your new single “RUN” is available now. What does it represent to you?
This single represents who I am. I’m thrilled to be able to show my culture and true self through this song and music video. I’m super excited to see how fans will react to it.

What was it like to shoot the music video for “RUN”? What was the inspiration behind it?
I had so much fun filming the music video! We went down to Jaipur, one of the most beautiful historical cities in India. I wanted to show my culture, which is why we filmed at the 450 year old Mundota Palace and Fort! I truly felt royal. We tied in my two main cultures - Indian and Western, and I love how my diversity is shown in the video.

You appear in beautiful, colorful looks in the video. How did you decide on the styling and hair colors?
I want to give all the credit to the director of the music video, who happens to be my younger sister! She’s so creative with visuals,

and honestly some looks she chose made me nervous at first, but she knew exactly which colors and styles would look good on camera.

How does it feel to release new music in the middle of this pandemic?
It feels odd. The releasing part is still the same because most of it is done online; however, we shot the music video at the very beginning of the pandemic and even then, it felt like a ghost town that we were walking through to get to the studio.

Are you still spending most of the time at home?
I am spending most of my time at home, but am happy to leave the house here and there while taking the right precautions. But I’m happy to see the outdoors again!

Did this year change you in any way, especially during quarantine?
This year really changed my perspective of life. With all the tragedies and craziness, I’ve started to not think too much about the future, as you don’t know what the future holds. What you should focus on is today. I’ve learned to live in the moment, rather than worry about what’s going to happen tomorrow.

What are your plans for when all of this is over?
My plans are to continue to explore the world, travel, and spread my music to as many people as possible. Also would like to be able to perform and reconnect with my fans again!

How would you like the next chapter of your music career to look like?
I’d like to see my music play a major role in a therapeutic way, maybe to help cure depression or any sort of mental health issues. I would like to continue to spread positivity through my songs.

Are there any artists you wish to collaborate with?
I’d love to collaborate with Bruno Mars and Harry Styles. I love their style of music, and especially their songwriting skills. They both are incredible artists and I’d love to see what we come up with if I ever get the chance to work with them.

Born in India, raised in London and currently you live in LA. How did each country help shape both your personality and music?
I do believe that living in different corners of the world has definitely influenced my music. My environment and lifestyle have reflected in my songwriting. I like to compare how different my songs are to each other sometimes, which knowing where I was at that specific time. It’s always great to see how much of an impact a certain place can make in your music.

Is there any type of World music that you would like to experiment with in the future?
I would like to explore further into Indian music and figure out a way to incorporate Indian music into my songs.

Tell me one thing that people don’t know yet about you?
I like to make soap bubbles with my hands. Not normal soap bubbles – they’re huge and I consider it a hidden talent [laughs].

Do you have any guilty pleasure?
Desserts! Once I start eating I can’t stop myself [laughs].

What is your favorite dish?
My favorite dish is Penne alla Puttanesca.

Who is your favorite person in the whole world?
This is the toughest question ever [laughs]. Um… I mean my favorite person in the whole world HAS to be my mom. She’s my role model. She’s always been supportive of me, and has a very kind and giving nature. I love her to the moon and back!!!
