TAYLOR
BISCIOTTI:
CHANGING THE
SPORTS SCENE ON TV

INTERVIEWED BY:
BASHAR ZIDANE

She is one of few faces changing the male-dominated sports scene on TV. Taylor Bisciotti talks to Glamoholic about ‘ICYMI: All 32’, her passion to prove women’s presence in sports media, and her off-screen style.
“You should have seen me Saturday night before our first Sunday...I didn’t sleep.  There’s something so magical about this time of year, and to be working for the NFL Network during the league’s 100th season is a dream come true.  I’m humbled and honored to be working for the NFL.”

What’s coming after ICYMI: All 32?
First episode of the new season aired Saturday, September 28th! I’m also doing a digital fantasy football show called “Fantasy League One” on NFL Digital.  It’s an “expert” vs. “celebrity” league, where NFL talent like myself are on the “expert” side and celebrities like Charles Melton are on the celeb side. It’s been a blast combining those worlds and ironically enough, the celebrities are winning right now! Suddenly ALL my girlfriends are dying to come visit me at work. I can’t say I blame them; Charles is very easy on the eyes.
Another project I’m working on that I’m really enjoying is my podcast “Lets Catch Up: An NFL Podcast with Taylor Bisciotti and Sam Betesh”. I’m able to discuss topics with no restrictions and really be myself.  It’s funny because even though I’m not “on air” where people can see me, I feel like it’s the most raw, personal version of myself I have ever put out there.  I’m talking WITH my listeners directly and it feels like an intimate conversation.

How important is it for you to shed a light on how players give back to their communities?
It is SO important.  People tend to lose sight of the amazing things these players do for their communities.  We focus on what they do ON the field – or on the few “bad eggs” that stir controversy - but most of the players are reaching out to their communities to give back and make it a better place. They spend their off-days volunteering, donating, visiting hospitals and truly making a difference in so many people’s lives. Just look at a player like Houston Texan’s J.J. Watt, who has used his platform to raise over $40 million dollars for victims of Hurricane Harvey.

You’re one of few faces changing the male-dominated sports scene on TV. Is there a lot that needs to be done in order to change this stigma?
Honestly, I feel lucky. So many women have paved the way before me to make it easier for women in sports now.  It’s not abnormal to see Samantha Ponder and Hannah Storm hosting major shows.  Pioneers like them have made it easier for females like me to be taken seriously in the sports world.  I think any and all opportunities are possible. Expectations and pressure on females will always be higher when you're in a male-dominated industry.  That’s just the way it is.  Viewers are definitely going to be more forgiving if a male makes a mistake on air than if a female were to. I try and focus on the things I can control.  I can’t control other people or their opinions.  I work hard, I over prepare, and I try to be the best version of myself I can be because those are the things I CAN control.

What do you think gave you this power and passion to prove women’s presence in sports media?
Both of my parents.  They have always taught me to chase my dreams and have supported me on anything I’ve wanted to go after or achieve. They never let me think I can’t do anything. My dad always taught me, “its 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration”. I try and base my life off that mantra.

You’ve grown up in a family that loved football. How do you imagine your future family in that aspect?
They better be sports fans, they won’t have a choice! Sports are amazing in that it has the rare capability of bringing people together. People from all different backgrounds and paths of life come together either on the field or off the field as fans.  You’re able to put aside all of your differences and cheer for your team for a few hours together. Sports can teach you some of life’s biggest lessons: how to compete; how to win and lose gracefully; the importance of teamwork, persistence, and accountability. I could go on and on but knowing the positive impact sports has had on my life, I will want my future family and kids to have that experience as well.

Would you like to explore non-sport areas in your career? What would you branch into?
Yes! I love entertainment as well. At the end of the day, entertainment and sports are very similar, and we are seeing a crossover between the two now more than ever.

Do you have any guilty pleasure?
Anything chocolate! I’m the biggest dessert freak.

How would you describe your off-screen fashion style?
I love fashion because it’s a way to express yourself and your personality.  On a day-to-day basis, I’m a “jeans and tee” type of girl but I love trying different looks for award shows, nights out, etc. My style changes and evolves constantly but one thing remains consistent: comfort! I refuse to be uncomfortable in anything I’m wearing because if I’m not comfortable in the clothes I have on, I won’t enjoy myself.

What’s your favorite fragrance?
Currently wearing Dior’s Blooming Bouquet.

Are you Glamoholic?
Yes! I love makeup and beauty products! Who doesn’t!? They help make you feel beautiful but full disclosure, I try not to become overly obsessed with it.  It sounds cliché but sometimes it’s hard to feel beautiful when you’re wearing TV-makeup 5 days a week.  When you take it off, you’re like “oh my gosh I look so different and couldn’t look as good as I did with all that professional makeup on!” It’s easy to go down a rabbit hole where you become overly critical of yourself. Don’t get me wrong, I still love beauty products, but I try and remind myself that it’s OKAY to not look perfect all the time and that it’s important to love yourself makeup-free too.
