Your EP “BK BABY” is available now. What can we expect?
Expect a project with substance. I wasn’t focused on making something that was meant to fit into a category, or cater to the radio. I really wanted to have fun experimenting with my sound, and give some insight to me as a person. Expect to know me a little better.

Take us back to the making journey of the album. What were your inspiration sources? What were some of the difficulties you’ve faced?

I loved this whole process, but I’d definitely be lying if I said I didn’t run into some issues. The pandemic hit very early on while making the album, and it was easy to be nihilistic about it all. I feel like I’m usually the dude who is the most positive-minded regardless of the situation, but it wasn’t easy to keep a clear head through it all at the very beginning. I had to stop taking myself so seriously and now we’re here.
I feel like more than anything with creating the album, it was my love for Film & Surrealism that helped me steer the soundscapes, and organize everything the way it is. I think BK Baby is a soundtrack for my wicked perspective of my life,  if that makes sense. I don’t want to call it a movie, it’s more episodic than that.

What kind of stories would you like to tell through your music?
I want to say the things that everyone is thinking, but never says, and tell the stories of the people who can’t speak for themselves.

A lot has changed in the past year. Did it affect your creative process? Or your perspective to some of the songs on the album?
At first it definitely did because the sessions were no longer in person, or weren’t happening at all. We all figured that out eventually -- It made me a better Producer though, and now I touch everything before it hits the mix / master. I’ve always been hands on, but now I’m a lot more confident with my skills, so I can drive the sessions.

Are there any collaborations on the album?
Every record is a collaboration for me, because I work closely with the Producers, and engineer. 9 out of 10 times we sat in a room and built the song from scratch.  I think the song with the least amount of collaboration was I’LL BE HONEST , and that’s because I felt I wanted it to be raw and as personal as possible. I worked with Jae Lee, Olson, Sam Affer, Chris Paul, Alex Oren on prod & vox.

Who would be your dream collab?
I would love an album executive produced by Kanye West.

In spite of the advantages of social media and music platforms to promote new music, it seems like new artists are required to do more personal effort than ever. Do you feel like it all depends on you?
I feel like all of these new mediums help artists get discovered in a bunch of different ways, but to a certain extent it definitely dilutes virality because it happens every day now. So there’s a lot of ‘ noise ‘ ... so there is personal effort required to somehow get through the clutter. I have a love/hate relationship with it, as I’m sure many people do. However, with more ways to connect with your fans, you should always be thinking of how to take advantage of what’s available.

You’ve been doing great in the fashion industry as well recently. What was it like to work with brands such as Nike and All-Saints?
I’m always happy to work on these campaigns. I find it interesting to see how the production brings the vision of the brands to life, so it’s dope being on set. Fashion is one of my passions, so any capacity I’m involved is a dream come true.

Are you planning to keep modeling and making music side by side?
I’ll always have a love for both, so most definitely.  Why not?

You have a really cool style! What inspires you when it comes to fashion?
Literally everything inspires me. I tend to go for the loudest garments in the room.

Would you like to have your own fashion line one day?
We actually have a few things we’re working on already with 58th & FAIR. We’ve released some cool capsule collections that did well locally in the past. Additionally, we have this leather bag that we’re releasing in the coming months.

What was your childhood like? Did you always want to do what you’re doing now?
I didn’t really want to be in music or fashion until I was around 19. I always had a love for both of these things, but I didn’t want to pursue them professionally. I was studying Hospitality, Tourism, & Business for a long time. I think it all comes together now because I’m building companies centered around both industries, and that's what drives me.

What would you say to people who don’t believe that dreams come true?
That is a tough way to think about things. There’s examples of dreams coming true all around us . We have the power to create for ourselves , and there’s no need to mystify it at all. If you stay consistent, despite adversity, you can make your dreams come true. I think we need to change our perspective of success a bit, however...that’s another conversation.

What makes you smile on a regular day?
Everything makes me smile haha. My family and friends do it for me the most. Conversations with like-minded people ..talks of how we can move the world forward, and give back. Those real insightful conversations , you know? I appreciate it all.
